Your gut says YES, but your brain says NO.  So let’s get them on the same page.

You are just dying to live in those gorgeous images you see in the Home Decor Magazines, drooling over the dreams they perpetuate ongoingly.  But you cannot get your brain around spending money on that level of luxury.  You can’t even get yourself to invest in some beautiful bedding on your primary bed. Ahh, But you CAN.  You just need PERMISSION.  And I’m here to give you that.

Affordable Home Decor and DIY are HGTV’s mantras.  (Even Shein is in on the act - products in the image above can be found here).  In and of themselves, these mantras give a type of permission to make the investment; but I have additional resources and a personal story to further help you get your head and your heart on the same page.

The biggest 3 Reasons we have permission to spend money on home decor are 1) BEAUTY HEALS; 2) MENTAL HEALTH and 3) SUCCESS.  My blog post Why a Beautiful Home is Important gives a fresh take with valuable substantiation for each of these.

We spend lots of money on seasonal decor to enjoy once a year.   We travel great distances and spend lots of money to go and see and experience beauty for just a few days at a time.   But wouldn't it be worth it to allow ourselves the pleasure of experiencing it every day in our own home and garden?  We can be prone to feel that it is too extravagant of an investment.   We also feel chained to norms and trends we don’t even personally prefer because of the argument for resale value.

I have so been there my friends, in my own life, MANY times.  I’ve owned 8 homes and rented at least 3.  And I would chronically feel guilty for spending the money and energy on home decorating in every one of them, for making gorgeous sentimental spaces.   But I couldn’t help it!  Beauty is something I have always craved like water (not an overstatement), and I just have to keep making it!  There have been times that the Real Estate market was not in our favor when time to sell, and I found that I had paid to leave a trail of beauty behind for the next occupants to enjoy at my own personal effort and expense.  But even in the worst case scenario of that, the memories we have of every one of our homes, and the joy and peace that supported us through good and bad seasons is priceless to all of us.

So You Think Spending Money on Home Decor is Silly by LOVEMYHOUSEBLOG.com

My Son said recently of our current home in McKinney, Texas (purchased 2 years ago),

“though every home has been vastly different, they have all looked and felt uniquely like us, as if they have all been one and the same.”

Quite a statement for a boy that has had 7 bedrooms!  There is no amount of money that could pay for the reward of hearing him say that.

Don’t cheat yourself from it!   Make the investment.  It pays for itself.  NOT in a showhouse.  But in your HOME.

I’m not here to make showhouses for people.  My own homes have not been showhouses.   If you follow my blogs, I’m going to teach you to make your house into a beautiful home.  I’m going to teach you how to find a style in your home that feels like living in your own skin, or listening to your most favorite music.  (See 7 Ways to Nail Your Design Style to get started!)

Still can’t let go?  Listen to your Pastor! He answers this question:  Is it selfish to spend money on Home Decor?  He uses the Bible to support this concept and recounts 1900 years of history around it.  If it’s good enough for God, it’s good enough for me, Sister.

Therefore, I’m so excited to share my stories with you and be the Interior Designer on your shoulder saying

“Go for it!  You and your family are worth it!”
