Mercury & Medallion Master

This Client already had a beautiful master bedroom with soft neutrals, gorgeous furnishings, and plush textures.  It was a look and feel that she used to love, but it no longer represented the current stage of her life’s journey or the internal changes she experienced that made her who she is today.  From a design perspective, it had a universal appeal.  A safe, move-in-ready look.   In order to feel most comfortable in one’s most intimate space, we need to be surrounded by the shapes, textures, and colors we love the most.  Now, when anyone who knows her well is given the privilege of beholding the new sanctuary, they always exclaim the same thing, “This looks just like  you!”.  It feels wonderful when we hear this, because we have accomplished our mission:  to make people feel seen and heard in their decor.

The Fabric

Our Client loves William Morris and Ballard Designs.  With a broad collection of mercury glass and a pension for medallion patterns, our first decision was to spice up the humdrum woven shades with rich panels of Ballard's Bristow Blue soft medallion fabric.   The shades of teal and light blue presented a daring opportunity to weave enough navy into the color palette to create a harmonic connection with the adjacent master bath’s bold navy clover and white shower tile.  The matelasse quilt from Bella Notte is luxuriously trimmed in thick velvet cording. An equally luxurious velvet bolster pillow is a shimmering backdrop for the tiny featured focal point, a crowing striped velvet pillow trimmed in navy bead fringe.

The Details

We trimmed the custom drapery with a scalloped neutral tape from Clarence House, and incorporated a secondary velvet navy cording around the euro shams.  William Morris Starlit Allium lamp shades dance in step with the medallions in the fabric and rug.  And the crowning detail is a heritage lion and lamb painting watching over her while she sleeps in safety.

The Sentiment

There is no better place to memorialize your most treasured relationship with your high school sweetheart than in the room in which you spent all of your nights for 40 years…before he passed.   The glass table is accessorized with the couple's portrait featured prominently, with smaller frames surrounding their children and grandchildren and the sea shells they collected together on favorite family vacations.
