Memorial Man Cave

What an honor to design this multi-purpose space dedicated to displaying the many medals and memorials earned by a highly decorated U.S Marine. This war hero, awarded a Purple Heart by former President George W. Bush, had to give up his man cave in a previous home when he and his wife became empty nesters and downsized. “I was astonished…” was the reaction from the client upon entering the room after our team finished featuring the memorials.  “Intriguing” and “original” are comments that the clients receive frequently when people approach this fascinating space.

The Display

One can stand in any central position of the home and see this incredible display. It was exciting to rise to the challenge of giving the clients the elegance they needed combined with a masculine vibe that could also serve as a platform for family gatherings and movie-watching.

The family room is positioned off of a recently renovated Sherwin Williams Naval and Snowbound kitchen, the perfect colors for a patriotic design. Liz traversed the TV and sectional to opposite walls to make room for a grand focal point. The chalk lined gold and navy wallpaper is Liz’s signature way of adding novelty to her designs and taking risks a lot of designers would not take. Liz configured the memorials on a large floor space and carefully measured vertical and horizontal distances in order to custom cut and finish live edge walnut shelves and position them intentionally. The wallpaper mural was customized so that an interesting loop on the wall area created a brilliant finish to this feature wall.

“Liz is an exceptional and talented designer. It is easy to “stay on trend” and mimic Pinterest boards, but Liz works hard to create unique designs based on clients' individual needs. She remains on budget and yet goes out of her way to accommodate. She is a pleasure to work with and was able to incorporate everything I wanted. I was extremely happy to have had the pleasure of working with Liz.”
