Forever in Blue Jeans
This Client already had a beautiful home with soft neutrals and plush textures. When we entered the home, we were wondering what we could possibly do to improve it. It was already beautiful. FOR SOMEBODY ELSE. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The essence of living is determined by the one experiencing it. And the original decor scheme was not bringing her life. Life is precious and important to her in a unique way after losing her high school sweetheart of 40 years. In the aftermath of grief and healing, she was ready to face life in a new way and make it all her own. The neutrals needed a good bit of enhancement with color, and symbols of all of her favorite things: Birds, cats, plates, and most importantly: blue jeans!
Mixing color and pattern has always been a strength exhibited in our designs. We sourced from 8 different vendors to achieve the curated look we are especially known for.
The Wallpaper
Dining Area: We needed something subtle to give color and movement without detracting from the light and airy feel of the space. By working with Costa Cover wallcoverings, we seamlessly blended the Floral Botanical Garden wallpaper with a customized background of Sherwin Williams Origami White to match her existing walls. The dainty vines gracefully graze upward behind her sentimental collection of white lace porcelain plates, making their appearance for the first time in years.
Powder Bath
What do you do with a busy blue and white medallion tile floor? The only viable solution: Stripes. One would think the perfect striped wallpaper is easy to find, but we looked at hundreds of dizzying stripes before we found Kravet Striped Sunset. But it wasn’t enough. We dug deeper to find, well… diamonds! Kravet Antiparos diamond shade fabric created a new level of interest that every other powder bath should envy.
The Fabric
The endeavor of coordinating the open breakfast, kitchen, and living areas while incorporating our client’s favorite symbols made for an exciting set of priorities. William Morris Strawberry Thief is famed for elegantly bringing birds that sing into any space they land. Robina’s Dinner Party fabric serves up all of the Client’s favorite animals, including her beautiful orange cats. Maxamillion and Willie Nelson are featured front and center on the custom sofa pillows. And how could we forget the blue jeans? The striped denim crypton fabric by Mag did the job on shades and custom chairs.
The Collections
Our Client is a passionate collector of various styles of accessories with memories attached to each one. Her pension for mercury glass creates a dazzling display upon entry into the expansive foyer. We love the challenge of mixing metallics, so we paired the stately wrought iron trimmed mirror with torch inspired wall sconces by Lucas McKearn. Slender, upward-sweeping stems carry onto the artful and organic lines decorating the top. Rather than performing the expensive process of wiring for the sconces, we found a work around - remote control wireless LED bulbs! The scene is crowned with a feminine-but-not-froo-froo pendant of two-toned hammered steel and textured glass prisms.
Our Client had a profound collection of blue and white treasures. Originally they were scattered on surfaces throughout the large space, and the individual pieces were not given the presence they deserved. We began by hanging a small grouping of blue and white plates above the kitchen buffet flanked with Uttermost’s delicate lamps. Collecting the extensive set of blue and white vases onto the bland kitchen shelving rounded out the space with significant smatterings of blue and white throughout. Treasured collections of sea shells dawn the dining buffet and are also preserved in a vessel in her master.
